Pelvic Floor and Incontinence Program

For Appointment: 732-235-6600

The Pelvic Floor and Incontinence Program provides a multidisciplinary approach to restoring function in both men and women.

A Team Approach

Often, conditions associated with the pelvic floor require patients to seek treatment from several doctors across multiple medical specialties. The Pelvic Floor and Incontinence Program is unique because it combines the expertise and medical services of:

  • Urogynecologists
  • Colorectal surgeons
  • Urologists
  • Physical therapists

Convenient Diagnosis and Treatment for Complex Cases

The program also offers patients the opportunity to receive a comprehensive diagnosis and thorough consultation in one location and one visit. Our physicians are available on Monday afternoons to review complex cases and determine the best treatment plan for patients.

Pelvic Floor Conditions Treated

The Pelvic Floor and Incontinence Program specializes in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Incontinence
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Constipation
  • Recto-vaginal and vesico-vaginal fistulas
  • Fecal incontinence

Physical Therapy for Pelvic Floor Incontinence Conditions

Physical therapy is an integral part of managing patients with pelvic floor problems. Treatment is provided by licensed physical therapists who have provided specialized training and are certified by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Treatments are based on the most recent research and evidence. The plan of care is developed in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and may include the following:

  • Biofeedback to assess the strength of the pelvic floor muscles and train them
  • Electrical stimulation to strengthen very weak muscles
  • Bladder schedule and retraining
  • Lifestyle modifications
  • Manual therapy
  • Therapeutic exercise, including vaginal weights
  • Relaxation
