Department of Medicine
Division of General Internal Medicine
The Division of General Internal Medicine is composed of highly trained and skilled physicians who are often referred to as internists, or as "doctors for adults." We serve as primary care physicians, as well as hospital-based physicians (hospitalists). We are dedicated to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases affecting adults. Some of the many diseases we treat include diseases of the heart and blood vessels, cancer, diabetes, digestive diseases, hormonal disorders, infections, kidney diseases, respiratory disorders, allergies, blood diseases and arthritis. Our patients range from young adults to senior citizens. We are skilled at managing patients with chronic illnesses and multiple illnesses at the same time.
The division has several specialty programs. We conduct our geriatrics program that specializes in the care of elderly patients. The practice provides comprehensive and coordinated care focused on maintenance of independence and functional capacity. We direct the Center for Innovations in Bloodless Surgery and Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and offer bloodless techniques in every surgical and medical specialty. We lead the Hospitalist Teaching Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, which provides state-of-the-art hospital care directed by physicians who specialize in caring for patients in the hospital. The division, in partnership with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, directs the Executive Health Program, which provides state-of-the-art diagnostic care and examinations that can detect disease early and lead to effective treatment. The Executive Examination is completed in just five hours and provides patients with results the same day. Finally, the Rutgers Tobacco Dependence Program is located within the Division and offers individualized, evidence-based tobacco treatment for those most in need of quitting.
We also provide annual wellness visits for Medicare patients. Click here to view our Medicare Wellness Visits brochure.
The Center for Innovations in Bloodless Surgery and Medicine provides care for patients who, for religious or other reasons, seek treatment that does not include blood transfusions.

The Executive Health Program is provided in collaboration with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and is geared for complete yearly preventive health examinations for busy professionals.
The entire history and physical examination, including blood tests, mammograms, chest X-rays, Pap smears, EKGs, stress test and vaccines, is generally completed in one four-hour session. Any necessary additional services are scheduled for a convenient time. This system maximizes efficiency and time spent with the physician.
The initial results are discussed at the time of the visit, and a full results packet is mailed to the client in a timely manner.
