Epilepsy Neurosurgery Program

The Epilepsy Neurosurgery Program offers the comprehensive multidisciplinary management of the patient with intractable focal seizures, especially partial complex seizures. Therapy is planned with the aid of techniques, such as anatomic mapping using stereoangiography, and MRI and functional scanning modalities, such as SPECT. These techniques are combined with other precise tests, such as electrophysiologic studies, including depth electrodes, subdural grids or strips.

Because of the completeness of the evaluation, surgery results in the localization of the focal area for the resection of the epileptogenic tissue, with the preservation of adjacent anatomic structures. Patients generally become seizure-free on or off medication, with no focal neurological deficit.
